Homes in Mustang
Much of Mustang is recent construction. The median home was built in 1992, and about 40% were built in 2000 or later.
A newer house still has plenty of places a leak can start: the water heater, washer hoses, an ice maker line, toilet supply lines and the drain pan under the AC. Many of them leak slowly, so water can reach the flooring and drywall before anyone notices.
Who handles water and sewer in Mustang
Mustang’s Public Works services are privatized, and a contractor handles water distribution and sanitary sewer work for the City.
During business hours, call City Hall at (405) 376-4521 for help with water or sewer service. To report a water or sewer problem after hours, call dispatch at (405) 376-2488.
Report a sewer problem before you pay a plumber
The City of Mustang won’t reimburse a plumbing bill unless you notified the City before the work, even if the problem was in the City’s sewer line.
The City lists the signs to report: gurgling toilets or drains, a sewer smell, slow drains throughout the house, or anything that looks like an overflow or backup. Call (405) 376-2488 so the person on call can be contacted. If the crew finds no problem in the City’s line, the next call is a plumber for the line to your house.
Once the line is clear, we clean, sanitize and dry what the backup reached. Read about sewage backup cleanup.
Leak alerts from Mustang’s new meters
Mustang is replacing its water meters with smart meters. The City says customers can track daily water use and set alerts for unusual use, which may help catch a leak early.
If an alert comes in, check under the sinks, behind the washer and around the water heater. If you find water on the floor or a stain on the drywall, we take moisture readings to see how far it went. Read about structural drying.
