Shut off your main water valve while you call. It’s usually where the water line enters the house: garage, utility closet or near the water heater. Turn it clockwise until it stops.

Flooded rooms or storm waterCall now

Stay out of standing water if the power is on. Don’t touch outlets, cords or appliances in wet areas. Only switch off the breaker if you can reach the panel from somewhere dry.

Sewage or toilet backupCall now

Keep kids and pets away. Don’t try to clean it yourself. Sewage water carries bacteria. Stop using sinks, toilets and showers until it’s been looked at, and keep the door to that area closed.

Right now

In the next 10 minutes.

You don’t need to do everything. Start with the water and your safety, then call.

  1. Turn the system off.

Switch the AC off at the thermostat so it stops pulling water out of the air and into the leaking pan or line.

  2. Find where it’s dripping.

Air handlers sit in attics, closets and garages. Look for water around the unit, a ceiling stain or wet carpet nearby.

  3. Protect what’s below.

Put a bucket or tote under any drip and move furniture and electronics out of the way.

  4. Call an HVAC tech and us.

An HVAC technician clears the drain line or fixes the unit. We find and dry what got wet.

What we do for an AC leak

We find the wet areas with moisture readings, remove standing water, and dry the ceiling, walls, insulation or floor that the leak reached.

Readings and photos show what can be dried in place and what has to come out, like soaked insulation. Read about structural drying.

Why AC units leak

Air conditioners pull water out of the air. When the drain line clogs or the pan rusts through, that water ends up in your attic or closet.

Oklahoma summers keep systems running hard, so a clogged line can overflow for days before anyone notices a stain on the ceiling. See water coming through the ceiling.

Slow leaks and insurance

An AC leak that went on for a while may be treated differently from a sudden one. Your carrier decides coverage, and we document what we find.

We share our photos, readings and drying records with you and your adjuster. Read more about how a claim works with United.

Common questions

Questions we hear often.

Have a different question? We answer 24/7.(405) 519-3568
Can I keep running the AC?

Leave it off until an HVAC technician clears the drain or fixes the unit. Running it keeps adding water.

Will this cause mold?

Prompt drying and regular moisture checks help reduce the conditions mold needs to grow. If we see signs of mold, we’ll tell you.

How soon can someone come out?

We answer 24/7, respond promptly and dispatch as quickly as possible. When you call, we’ll give you an honest estimated arrival time based on your location and current conditions.
