What we do after storm water gets in
We remove the water, clean and sanitize what it touched, take moisture readings, dry the structure and document everything for your claim.
- Remove the water. We extract standing water from floors, carpet and pad. Read how water extraction works.
- Clean what it touched. Surfaces the storm water reached are cleaned and sanitized.
- Remove what can’t be saved. Porous materials soaked by outside water, like carpet and pad, usually come out.
- Dry and document. Drying equipment and moisture readings confirm the structure is dry, with records for your adjuster.
Storm water needs extra care
Water from outside can carry dirt, bacteria and chemicals. Porous materials it soaks, like carpet and pad, usually have to come out.
The industry standard, the IICRC S500, treats water that rises from outside as contaminated. We handle it the same careful way we handle a sewage backup.
Roof or window leak, or rising water?
Rain through a damaged roof or window and rising water from outside are often treated differently by insurance. Ask your agent which applies.
Flood damage from rising water usually needs separate flood insurance, such as a policy through the National Flood Insurance Program. Our guide to whether homeowners insurance covers water damage explains more.
Storm season in Oklahoma
Oklahoma’s spring storm season brings heavy rain and hail. Keep gutters and drains clear, and check your roof and windows after a big storm.
